First State Crossing

Claymont, Delaware

Former Evraz Steel Mill
Claymont, Delaware

In 2015, CDC announced the purchase and environmental liability transfer of a 425-acre retired steel mill in Claymont, DE (outside Philadelphia). This transaction jumpstarted environmental remediation and demolition which has led to a large-scale development project now underway. CDC is now planning a $500 million new construction project is expected to have the largest economic development impact of any project under way in the state.

The plan includes 3.75 million square feet of new construction – office, residential, retail, and light-industrial. Additionally CDC donated 15 acres to the state for the construction of a new top tier transit center connecting the new development to Philadelphia and other neighboring metro areas.

Catalyst for Re-development: Estimated to bring 5,000 jobs to the local area, the “First State Crossing” development initiative is slated to break ground following environmental remediation in 2021.
